Onomatopoeia
on-oh-mot-oh-PEE-uh
A sound effect that grew up and became a word. The Ono turns up the volume in a story or argument—don’t use it if you want to sound subtle. A good Ono can add cartoonish humor; it can also convey the drama of recent disaster, or a future crashing or melting apocalypse.
