Word Hero Chapter Two

On page 14, I turned Hemingway's "The earth moved" into "seismic copulation" and "fornicational geology." See what I was doing there? I took things that don't really belong together and used them in adjectival phrases--adjectives modifying nouns. I love the idea of a word "modifying" a noun, as if you could stick a great book in front of a kid and "modify" him into a genius. I modify "geology," a perfectly respectable, bedrock kind of word, with "fornicational." Actually, I don't modify it so much as tart it up.

Now you try. Come up with bizarre adjectival phrases of your own. Congrats! You now have a cool new website name, a la seismic.copulation.com. (No, that site doesn't exist. Feel free to register it!)
