Word Hero Preface

The preface begins with a story, because that's the best way to draw people in and get them to identify with me as a character. An essential element in a story is tension.. Can you name two sources of tension in the first two paragraphs? (I counted four.)

Prospect of writing your own obit and how the movie FAME would relate to that.

The tension in the first paragraph is in the extreme nature of what you claim you'll teach your friend. I think that's hyperbole? You could have answered the matter plainly but instead chose death imagery. The tension in the following paragraph is the point where the friend recoils in offense.

First Source of Tension is due difference in expectations - She was expecting something that would help her in Life, you implied that it would help her in death.

After that, I'm finding it hard to spot paradox, oxymoron, contraster or mirror image... and I don't want to impose tension where there's none. I'd appreciate if you pointed it out.
