Who
Jay Heinrichs: I'm the author of the New York Times bestseller, Thank You for Arguing: What Aristotle, Lincoln and Homer Simpson Can Teach Us About the Art of Persuasion (Crown/Three Rivers Press and Penguin UK). My next book, Word Hero, comes out in October.
What
I maintain one of the top language blogs on the Web, Figarospeech.com, and I give frequent talks and workshops for corporate events, nonprofit groups, and academic institutions. I currently work as a media and persuasion consultant. (High-flying clients have included NASA and Southwest Airlines.)
Having spent more than 30 years in publishing as a writer, editor, and publishing executive, I've written for several dozen publications, from The New York Times Magazine to Reader’s Digest. I've edited three critically acclaimed books for major publishers, and contributed a controversial chapter critiquing the President’s “virtue” in the New York Times bestseller, Barack Obama: an American Journey.
Where
I live on 150 acres in central New Hampshire. My wife, Dorothy Behlen Heinrichs, is Director of Principal Gifts at the Vermont Law School. She gets teased a lot by colleagues since I called her a babe in my last book. (It's true, though.) We have two witty grown kids: daughter Dorothy Junior and son George.
